Ear Warmer
Headband
Needles size:
Canadian 2 or 7 mm
crochet hook (4 to
6 mm)
Wool: I ball of
eyelash or other fuzzy novelty yarn and one ball of double knitting in a colour
which blends with the novelty yarn.
Holding one strand
of each kind of wool together cast on 2 stitches leaving a 10” tail of the
double knitting yarn.
Increase one in
the first and second stitch by knitting and purling in each one.
knit 1 purl 1
across. ( 4 stitches)
Row 1 purl one knit one in the first stitch, purl 1
knit one to last stitch, purl 1 knit 1 in the last stitch.
Row 2 purl 1 knit
1 across
Row 3 knit 1 purl
1 in the first stitch, knit 1 purl 1 to the last stitch, knit 1 purl 1 in the
last stitch.
Row 4 purl 1 knit
1 across.
Repeat rows 1 to 4
once. (12 stitches.) for narrow headband.
repeat rows 1 and
2 for wider headband (14 stitches, my choice)
next row for 12 or
16 stitches: slip the first stitch, purl 1 knit across
For 14 or 18
stitches, slip the first stitch knit 1 purl 1 across.
Repeat this row
till entire length is 16” (40 cm). Adjust
length at this point allowing for about 2 ½” for decrease.
Decrease:
Row 1 knit 2
together purl 1 knit 1 to last 2 stitches purl 2 together.
Row 2 knit 1 purl
1 across.
Row 3 purl 2
together knit 1 purl 1 to last 2 stitches knit 2 together.
Row 4 purl 1 knit
1 across.
repeat these 4
rows till you have 2 stitches.
knit 2 together.
Remove needle and using a crochet hook chain 5-6 loops and then join at base of
headband with a slip stitch to make a loop. cut yarn, thread through last chain
and weave in ends.
sew button at the
other end with the tail you left when casting on.
