Easy Knit Spring Purse

Spring Purse

Materials:

16” 9 mm circular needle

Pair strait 9 mm needles

Super Bulky wool or combination of several fibers to make the same thickness as super bulky

I like to use up to 6 strands of varying thickness including some cotton.

Yellow purse has 5 strands: I crochet cotton 2 knitting worsted and 1 thicker cotton and a variegated thin thread.

With strait needles cast on 8 stitches

Knit 33 rows in strait stitch (knit 1 row, purl 1 row)

Ending with right side facing.

Switch to circular needle and purl 1 row.

Using strait needle pick up 16 stitches onto circular needle down long side, 8 stitches along cast on edge and 16 stitches up the other side (48 sts)

Place marker and knit one round.

Start pattern:

Row 1 knit 2 purl 2 around

Row 2 knit

Row 3 purl 2 knit 2

Row 4 knit

Repeat the 4 rows of pattern 5 more times for a total of 24 rows.

Handle one:

Using a strait needle knit 12, cast off 8 sts. Knit 16 (last loop of cast off counts as 1)

Turn and using 2^nd strait needle purl 1 purl 2 tog., purl till 3 sts. remain, purl 2 tog. purl 1

Next row knit 1 knit 2 tog. knit till 3 sts. remain, knit 2 tog. knit 1

Continue in this manner till 4 sts. remain.

Work 26 rows in strait st. Cut yarn leaving a 6” tail and place sts. on a stitch holder..

Button tab:

Still using strait needles attach yarn with right side facing and knit 8 stitches.

Knit 1 knit 2 tog. knit 2 knit 2 tog. (6 sts.)

purl 1 row.

knit 1 row

purl 1 row

knit 2 knit 2 tog knit 2 (5 sts.)

purl 1 row

Knit 2 yfd knit 2 tog. knit 1

purl 1 row.

Cast off knitting first and last 2 sts. tog.

Second handle:

With right side facing knit remaining 16 sts and work the same as handle one.

Turn bag inside out and put stitches from holder on the circular needle. Cast off using the 3-needle method.

Weave in ends and attach button.

Headband Pattern

Ear Warmer Headband

Needles size: Canadian 2 or 7 mm

crochet hook (4 to 6 mm)

Wool: I ball of eyelash or other fuzzy novelty yarn and one ball of double knitting in a colour which blends with the novelty yarn.

Holding one strand of each kind of wool together cast on 2 stitches leaving a 10” tail of the double knitting yarn.

Increase one in the first and second stitch by knitting and purling in each one.

knit 1 purl 1 across. ( 4 stitches)

Row 1 purl one knit one in the first stitch, purl 1 knit one to last stitch, purl 1 knit 1 in the last stitch.

Row 2 purl 1 knit 1 across

Row 3 knit 1 purl 1 in the first stitch, knit 1 purl 1 to the last stitch, knit 1 purl 1 in the last stitch.

Row 4 purl 1 knit 1 across.

Repeat rows 1 to 4 once. (12 stitches.) for narrow headband.

repeat rows 1 and 2 for wider headband (14 stitches, my choice)

next row for 12 or 16 stitches: slip the first stitch, purl 1 knit across

For 14 or 18 stitches, slip the first stitch knit 1 purl 1 across.

Repeat this row till entire length is 16” (40  cm). Adjust length at this point allowing for about 2 ½” for decrease.

Decrease:

Row 1 knit 2 together purl 1 knit 1 to last 2 stitches purl 2 together.

Row 2 knit 1 purl 1 across.

Row 3 purl 2 together knit 1 purl 1 to last 2 stitches knit 2 together.

Row 4 purl 1 knit 1 across.

repeat these 4 rows till you have 2 stitches.

knit 2 together. Remove needle and using a crochet hook chain 5-6 loops and then join at base of headband with a slip stitch to make a loop. cut yarn, thread through last chain and weave in ends.

sew button at the other end with the tail you left when casting on.
